We claw our way to windward, to put more distance between us and the rocky lee shore and it's dangerously close pounding surf. We regret our decision to defer reefing before when we had safe searoom to do it, now we can't and are seriously overpowered by wind and wave. The sky is frowning with storm tossed clouds; the light on the S.E. Farallons can be seen through the rifts in the cloud mass. We carry a luff in the mains'l and rely mostly on the jenny to make our way to the safety of open waters. |
